Nonprofits all over the country are asking the same questions. Because of this, we compiled some of the most common ones we are seeing in our community and our Ask-the Expert team provided answers. We've also compiled helpful resources for nonprofit leaders from a variety of sources.
Boardsource has been working with and supporting nonprofit boards and leaders for 30 years. The expertise we’ve gained informs our members-only Ask-an-Expert email service, which provides you with the opportunity to ask one of our experts questions related to best governance practices via email. Nonprofit organizations are on the front lines addressing this pandemic, but we are also at risk due to evaporating revenue, new demands, and major disruptions in charitable giving. Tell your member of Congress to provide emergency aid to nonprofit organizations in any COVID-19 legislation, including expanding charitable giving and providing organizations with grants, loans, and tax credits. Visit the Independent Sector Policy Action Center to tell your legislators that Congress must provide emergency aid to nonprofit organizations and help secure billions of dollars in critical funding for our communities.
As the world responds to the threats of COVID-19, many nonprofits and their boards are wrestling with difficult questions and decisions. In these uncertain times, as the situation rapidly changes, the board needs to provide steady and adaptive leadership in partnership with and in support of the CEO.
With most of the country practicing social distancing, many nonprofits are unable to continue with previously scheduled in-person board meetings. But that doesn't mean that the board shouldn't be meeting at all. In a challenging and rapidly changing environment, effective board meetings take on even more importance. You can read more about virtual meetings here in our downloadable publication, Virtual Meetings Untangled. We are offering this publication as a free, immediate download during this time.
